![]() Seemingly enjoying a glamorous life of fame and fortune, J actually feels like a caged bird, secretly yearning to retire as Man pulls her strings and controls even her private life. Singer J (Joey Yung) has worked her way up to become the reigning pop queen, but she owes much of her success to the machinations of her manager Man (Chapman To). Offering a candid look at the inner workings of the showbiz world and the sacrifices and compromises one makes in exchange for fame and success, the film benefits from a solid supporting cast that includes Hu Ge, Carlos Chan, Wilfred Lau, and Bonnie Xian, with Fiona Sit, William So, and Kara Hui making cameo appearances. Promising writer-director Heiward Mak ( Ex) lays bare the complex symbiotic relations between the manager and his artists, played convincingly by Canto-pop star Joey Yung ( Crazy N' the City) and up-and-coming singer Mag Lam ( Live in Flames). Currently on a run of sparkling form, Chapman To ( Vulgaria) produces and stars in Diva, in which his marvelous turn as an unscrupulous talent manager has earned him a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the 49th Golden Horse Awards. ![]()
